Mali’s military said on Sunday it had carried out several airstrikes against armed groups in the central regions of Douentza and Bandiagara, without providing casualty figures.
The Malian Armed Forces said intelligence operations had detected dozens of motorcycles belonging to armed groups in a forest near Kernia in Douentza, according to Malian media reports cited by Erem News.
The military said it struck the group and targeted another group concealed in vegetation in the same area.
In Bandiagara, an armed reconnaissance mission around Diallo identified a pickup truck that the military said belonged to an armed group. The vehicle was parked beneath a tree with people inside when the site was targeted, the army said.
The military’s general staff said surveillance and reconnaissance operations were continuing to assess the results of the strikes and prepare a full report. It did not disclose how many people had been killed or wounded.
Mali has faced a security crisis since 2012, involving armed groups linked to Al-Qaeda and Islamic State, as well as separatist rebellions in the north.
