Students at the University of Expatriates in Khartoum have complained about the continued imposition of a 200,000 Sudanese pound fee to sit examinations, saying the charge did not exist before the war.
Several students told Alrakoba that the university first introduced the fee while operating temporarily from Atbara in River Nile State.
One student said the university had explained at the time that the payment was intended to cover examination costs as well as the rent for its temporary premises in Atbara, in addition to the university’s regular tuition and other fees.
Students say, however, that the university has since returned to its original campus in Khartoum but is still demanding the same examination fee.
“We are not secondary or primary school students for examination fees to be imposed on us,” one student told Alrakoba.
The students criticised the continued charge and questioned why it remains in place now that the university has resumed operations from its permanent campus in the capital.
