Egypt calls for end to Sudan war in talks with UN envoy

Egypt has called for an end to the conflict in Sudan and a comprehensive political settlement during talks between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and UN special envoy Pekka Haavisto.

The two discussed developments in Sudan and regional and international efforts to de-escalate the crisis.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, stressing that Sudanese ownership must underpin any political solution.

He called for efforts to restore stability and end the conflict through a comprehensive settlement that safeguards Sudan’s sovereignty and meets its people’s aspirations for security and development.

Both sides emphasised the need to ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need and ease the suffering of the Sudanese people, alongside efforts to advance a political resolution.

Haavisto praised Egypt’s role in supporting Sudan’s security and stability and its regional and international efforts to help end the crisis.

He also reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to continued coordination and consultation with Egypt to help bring the conflict to an end.
