A member of the SAF-allied Joint Force accidentally fired a projectile from the Halfaya Bridge area in Khartoum, with the round landing near a military police checkpoint without causing casualties, local media reported on Thursday.
Security sources said the projectile was discharged accidentally from the bridge approach and landed close to a military police position.
Security and military personnel rushed to the scene and launched an investigation into the incident. The Joint Force member who fired the round was receiving medical treatment, according to the report, which did not identify him or explain the circumstances surrounding his injuries.
No deaths or injuries were reported from the projectile’s impact.
Armed robbery reported in Omdurman
In a separate incident, resident Musab Mohammed Rashad said he was robbed at gunpoint outside his home in the Bant East district of Omdurman on the evening of September 9.
Rashad said the assailants were travelling in a black three-wheeled rickshaw covered with a black tarpaulin and stole his iPhone 13 Pro Max.
He said the suspects appeared to be the same individuals previously identified in images circulated by another person.
Police arrest suspected military impersonator
Separately, police in Karari locality said joint security operations led to the arrest of a man accused of wearing a military uniform and falsely presenting himself as a member of the security forces.
Police said other suspects were detained in possession of a rubber-bullet pistol and a hand grenade.
Authorities also seized several motorcycles accused of violating emergency regulations in Al-Nil City.
Legal proceedings were opened against those detained under provisions covering suspicion and state-level emergency orders.
