One person was killed and two others wounded after an armed confrontation broke out at the exchange market in Ed Daein, the capital of East Darfur state, local Sudanese media reported on Sunday.
Witnesses said the violence began on Saturday evening when an argument between two young men inside the market quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
One of the men, who was in his twenties, was killed at the scene, while the other was wounded, according to the reports.
The victim’s relatives later entered the exchange market following the shooting and set fire to a site belonging to the Rapid Support Forces, as well as three commercial premises, witnesses said.
A third person was also reported wounded during the unrest.
The violence prompted a partial closure of the exchange market in Ed Daein and left traders and shoppers fearful amid continued tensions in the area.
Local authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident as of Sunday.
