An Egyptian court has sentenced five Sudanese men to three years in prison each in a case involving the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old Sudanese girl in Giza, according to Egyptian newspaper reports cited by Sudanese media.
The Giza Criminal Court issued the sentences after prosecutors referred the defendants to trial following the girl’s complaint about an incident inside an apartment in the Talbiya district.
According to the investigation account cited in the reports, the girl had known the first defendant for about six months after meeting him through mutual friends.
On May 1, 2026, she left her family home following an argument with her mother. After reaching the Faisal area, she called the first defendant, who asked her to meet him in the nearby Al-Tawabeq neighbourhood.
The girl told investigators that five young men and a young woman were present when she arrived. She alleged that the first defendant sexually assaulted her inside a room and that a second defendant subsequently assaulted her.
Following her complaint, security officers identified the apartment and arrested the suspects. Prosecutors investigated the case before referring it to the criminal court.
The court, presided over by Judge Emad al-Khouli, sentenced all five defendants to three years in prison. The report did not specify the charges on which each was convicted or explain the findings concerning the other three defendants.
