Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday, expressing support for Riyadh following a series of attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement.
According to a statement from the army-aligned Sovereignty Council, Burhan condemned the attacks and backed measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its sovereignty and security. He also expressed appreciation for Riyadh’s continued support for Sudan’s unity and stability.
The conversation comes amid escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthis, who have intensified missile and drone attacks against the kingdom in recent weeks.
The Houthis announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia in July and have since claimed attacks on Saudi territory and shipping, raising concerns over security in the Red Sea.
Saudi Arabia’s state news agency SPA said Crown Prince Mohammed reaffirmed Riyadh’s commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
He also expressed support for efforts to restore stability in Sudan, facilitate reconstruction and enable millions of displaced people and refugees to return to their homes.
