Yemen’s Houthis said on Saturday they targeted a Saudi Aramco facility in Riyadh with ballistic missiles and drones, as fighting between the group and Saudi Arabia intensified.
The Iran-aligned group said the operation was carried out in retaliation for Saudi strikes on the Yemeni capital Sanaa and other provinces.
A witness earlier told Reuters that a large plume of smoke and flames could be seen rising near an Aramco facility in the Saudi capital.
Saudi authorities had not immediately confirmed that the facility had been attacked, while Aramco did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The reported strike comes amid a sharp escalation in hostilities, with the Houthis stepping up missile and drone attacks against Saudi cities and energy infrastructure.
Last week, the Houthis also claimed attacks on Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu using missiles and drones. Saudi Arabia said it intercepted six ballistic missiles heading towards Taif and the Yanbu area but reported no damage to Aramco facilities.
