Police in Sudan’s Al Jazirah state have arrested a man suspected of physically abusing his young children and restraining them with iron chains inside their family home in Al Hasahisa locality.
According to police, the suspect allegedly subjected his children to repeated beatings and chained them to bed frames at a house in one of the locality’s villages.
The arrest followed information received by the head of Al Hasahisa’s criminal investigations unit indicating that a child had been assaulted.
Investigators dispatched to the village detained the suspect before searching his residence, where they reportedly discovered iron chains and other objects believed to have been used to restrain the children.
Police seized the materials as evidence and transferred the man to a police station for questioning and further legal proceedings.
Authorities said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse and determine the suspect’s motives.
The number and ages of the children involved, as well as their current condition, were not disclosed.
The case was initially reported by local Sudanese media on October 8, citing police information.
