A Sudanese pharmacist has been killed and another person wounded in a suspected armed robbery near Al-Nuhud in West Kordofan state, amid growing concerns over insecurity and criminal activity in the region.

The victim, identified as Asim Suleiman, owned the well-known Yassin Pharmacy in Al-Nuhud, according to local Sudanese media.

Sources told Darfur24 that armed men wearing Rapid Support Forces (RSF) uniforms intercepted Suleiman’s vehicle west of the city as he travelled from the market in Tiriya village towards Al-Ghabsha Jaber.

The attackers, reportedly travelling in three small vehicles, opened fire on Suleiman’s car, fatally wounding the pharmacist and injuring his companion in the forearm.

The gunmen allegedly fled following the shooting, which local sources described as an attempted robbery.

The Dar Hamar Emergency Room, a local volunteer organisation, separately accused RSF members of carrying out the attack, according to Sudanese media reports.

The precise circumstances of the killing, including the attackers’ identities, have not been independently established.

Residents have reported a growing number of armed robberies, killings and other security incidents in Al-Nuhud, coinciding with an increased presence of armed fighters in and around the city.

Local sources also reported that the city’s main market had been closed for three days following tensions involving fighters who allegedly refused to comply with orders from their commanders concerning military movements.
