Sudan’s TASIS-led Government of Peace and Unity has reportedly appointed Idris Madallal as head of its newly established Security and Intelligence Service, as the administration moves to strengthen its security institutions across territories under its control.
The appointment was reported on Sunday by local Sudanese news outlet Darfur24, citing sources familiar with the government’s efforts to establish the agency, finalise its organisational structure and appoint senior officials.
Madallal is a senior figure within the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and previously held positions in the force’s media department for several years.
According to the sources, the TASIS administration has completed the intelligence agency’s organisational structure and appointed officers to several departments.
The newly formed service reportedly includes former members of Sudan’s General Intelligence Service alongside personnel drawn from the RSF’s intelligence apparatus.
Sources said Madallal had also appointed regional security directors in states controlled by the TASIS alliance, with several officials already assuming their responsibilities.
The appointments mark another step in the alliance’s efforts to establish security and administrative institutions in territories under its authority.
Earlier this year, the TASIS government established a Security and Defence Council tasked with overseeing national security policy and developing new military, police and intelligence institutions.
The council forms part of a broader institutional restructuring programme pursued by the alliance, which includes the RSF, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North and other political and armed groups.
The RSF currently controls most of Sudan’s Darfur region, excluding areas including Jebel Marra, Tawila and Tina. It also holds West Kordofan state and parts of North and South Kordofan.
The TASIS administration has been expanding its governing structures in these areas as Sudan’s conflict, which erupted in April 2023, continues.
