The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have renewed claims of control over the strategic Al-Kayli area in Sudan’s southeastern Blue Nile region, amid intensifying fighting between the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) and Sudan’s military.

Sudanese news outlet Rhino published footage on Wednesday that it described as showing RSF forces announcing their control of Al-Kayli, a contested location along the military corridor connecting the regional capital, Damazin, with Kurmuk near the Ethiopian border.

The latest claim could not be independently verified, and the date and location of the footage have not been conclusively established.

Al-Kayli has repeatedly changed hands or been contested during months of fighting. TASIS previously announced its capture in April, while Sudan’s military claimed to have regained the area in May.

Further clashes were reported in September, when the military said it had repelled an offensive involving RSF units and fighters from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

The renewed claim follows Tuesday’s announcement by TASIS that its forces had captured the strategic Sali military base in Blue Nile after fighting with Sudanese army units.

Sudan’s military subsequently acknowledged repositioning its forces outside Sali.

The developments come as fighting spreads across several areas of Blue Nile, where TASIS-aligned forces have been seeking to expand their territorial control and increase pressure on military positions defending Damazin.

The regional capital has also experienced renewed drone attacks, highlighting the escalation of military operations across southeastern Sudan.
