Two Sudanese herders were shot dead by Chadian security forces after crossing into Chad from Sudan’s West Darfur state, according to local sources cited by Darfur24.
The incident occurred near the Arara border area, close to Beida locality in West Darfur, where Chadian personnel reportedly opened fire on the two men, killing them at the scene.
Sources told Darfur24 on Saturday that the herders had entered Chadian territory without completing official border procedures and were carrying a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
Following the shooting, Chadian authorities reportedly seized the men’s motorcycle and firearm.
The incident sparked tensions among communities living along the Sudan-Chad border, raising concerns about a possible escalation in an area where cross-border movement and livestock grazing are common.
However, a joint Sudanese-Chadian community committee intervened to defuse the situation, engaging local representatives on both sides of the border.
According to the sources, the committee’s efforts helped restore calm and prevent further confrontation.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, including whether Chadian security personnel issued warnings before opening fire.
There was no immediate official statement from Chadian authorities regarding the incident.
