Algeria’s foreign ministry expressed its “regret” regarding Britain’s decision on Sunday to support Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara.
The ministry stated that this move by the UK overturns a decades-long policy that had favoured self-determination for the disputed territory.
In a statement, Algeria’s foreign ministry noted that Morocco’s autonomy plan, which has existed for 18 years, has never been presented to the Sahrawis as a basis for negotiation and has not been seriously considered by successive UN envoys.
