Angola sets summit to address DRC-Rwanda tensions

Angola, which brokered a fragile ceasefire between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, will host a summit on December 15th to further the peace process.

The summit aims to address the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC, where the M23 rebel group has been active.

Despite the initial ceasefire, the M23 has recently resumed offensive operations, raising concerns about the stability of the region.

However, both countries have maintained diplomatic dialogue under Angola’s mediation.

The summit will focus on implementing a harmonized plan to end the conflict and facilitate the withdrawal of Rwandan troops from Congolese territory.

A key component of this plan involves the dismantling of the FDLR, a militia group operating in eastern DRC.

Angola’s efforts to mediate the conflict are crucial to restoring peace and stability to the region, which has been plagued by violence and instability for decades.
