Another deadly bus accident tragedy strikes South Africa

A bus traveling from Zimbabwe lost control and overturned in northeastern South Africa, killing five people, officials reported on Sunday. This tragic event adds to a week where dozens have lost their lives on the country’s roads.

The accident occurred in Limpopo province, where four men and one woman died. The province’s transport ministry noted the incident, marking it as the second fatal bus crash in less than five days.

The ministry speculated that driver fatigue might have contributed to the crash. They also reported that many passengers sustained various injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment.

Earlier in the week, another Zimbabwean bus overturned in Limpopo, killing 10 and injuring 35. The spate of accidents has raised concerns over road safety in the region.

South Africa, despite having a well-developed road network, struggles with road safety due to reckless driving and poorly maintained vehicles. Limpopo’s transport minister urged bus companies to ensure their drivers are fit for duty.
