Kenyan authorities are facing allegations of involvement in the arrest and extradition of Ugandan dissident Kizza Besigye.
Lawyer Erias Lukwago, representing Besigye, claimed on Saturday that Kenya played a “heavy hand” in the abduction and transfer.
The 68-year-old opposition veteran was taken from a Nairobi hotel and appeared in a Kampala court on Wednesday, sparking widespread condemnation.
Ugandan authorities insist Kenya was aware of the operation, despite earlier denials from Kenyan officials about their involvement.
Lukwago revealed he retrieved Besigye’s documents from the Nairobi hotel but faced resistance from Kenyan intelligence.
“We are prepared for an all-out legal battle to ensure Besigye gets justice,” Lukwago told AFP, decrying the arrest as illegal.
The incident adds to Uganda’s growing crackdown on political opposition under President Yoweri Museveni’s regime.
In July, 36 members of Besigye’s Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) were deported from Kenya and prosecuted in Uganda on terrorism charges.
