Cyclone Chido death toll in Mozambique rises to 75

The death toll from Cyclone Chido in Mozambique has tragically risen to 75, according to the country’s National Disaster Risk Management Institute (INGD).

The cyclone made landfall on December 15, bringing torrential rain, strong winds, and widespread flooding.

The affected areas, primarily the northern provinces of Niassa, Nampula, and Cabo Delgado, have suffered significant damage to infrastructure, including homes, schools, and health facilities.

Thousands of people have been displaced, and many remain without basic necessities like food and clean water.

The United Nations has allocated $4 million in emergency aid to support relief efforts in Mozambique.

However, the full extent of the damage and the number of casualties are still being assessed.

In neighboring Malawi, the cyclone has also caused significant damage, resulting in 13 deaths and displacing over 45,000 people.
