Deadly bombing hits Nigeria’s Zamfara state

At least 12 people lost their lives on Wednesday when a bus drove over a hidden explosive in Zamfara State, Nigeria.

The explosion occurred in Yar Tasha village, situated in the restive Maru area of the state, according to local reports.

Aliyu Yusha’u, a community leader, confirmed the tragic incident, stating the blast was caused by explosives buried beneath the road.

“The explosion claimed 12 lives and left others injured,” Yusha’u revealed during a phone interview with Anadolu Agency.

The commercial bus was en route to Dansadau, a nearby town, when it struck the concealed device, officials said.

No official statement had been issued by the police as of Wednesday evening, leaving families anxious for further updates.

Ibrahim Jauro, a local government official, highlighted the growing insecurity, mentioning a similar incident earlier in the week.

On Sunday, another explosive detonated under a car in the same region, tragically killing the driver on impact.

Zamfara State has seen a rise in attacks by armed groups, locally referred to as bandits, wreaking havoc on communities.

In response to the escalating violence, authorities have deployed special military forces to restore peace and security in the area.

This latest tragedy underscores the urgent need for enhanced efforts to curb the menace of terrorism and protect innocent lives.
