A military court in the Democratic Republic of Congo sentenced at least 26 people to death, as reported by Nation Africa.
Among those sentenced is Corneille Nangaa Yobeluo, former head of the CENI, and his associates.
The group was tried for conspiring against the state, committing war crimes, and participating in an insurrection movement.
The military trial concluded with the death sentences for the accused.
Of the 26 sentenced, 21, including Nangaa, remain at large.
Nangaa is the leader of the Congo River Alliance group, and the authorities continue to search for the fugitives.
Defense lawyers argued that they were not given sufficient time to prepare their case.
Nangaa was accused of collaborating with rebel groups, including M23, which are charged with plotting against the Kinshasa government.
Nangaa also coordinates the Alliance Fleuve Congo, a political-military movement initiated in Kenya last December, shortly before Congo’s presidential election.
The death penalty was reinstated on March 15.
