South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have taken their bid to restart impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa to the Constitutional Court. The case revolves around the “Farmgate” scandal, involving alleged millions stolen from Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm.
An independent panel suggested misconduct, but in 2022, the ANC-dominated parliament blocked further investigation. The EFF claims this decision was unlawful, while Ramaphosa denies wrongdoing, citing insufficient evidence.
The ANC, now governing through a coalition after losing its majority in May, continues to defend Ramaphosa as hearings begin.
