Four children die in Namibia after becoming trapped in old freezer

Four young children, aged between three and six, have died in Namibia after becoming trapped in an old, non-functional freezer in the town of Katima Mulilo, located in the Zambezi Region. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon as the children were playing in the freezer, which was left outside a house.

Police suspect the children accidentally locked themselves inside and suffocated. Two of the children died in the freezer, while the other two passed away at a nearby hospital where they were rushed for treatment. Zambezi regional police commander Andreas Shilelo stated that the freezer had a hook that could only be opened from the outside, leaving the children trapped for approximately an hour and a half.

The reason for the freezer being left outside remains unclear. The tragedy has left the community and the affected families in mourning.
