Ghana navy investigates piracy after three Chinese go missing

Three Chinese nationals are missing from Ghanaian waters following a suspected piracy incident, the Ghana Armed Forces announced Saturday.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 6 p.m. GMT on a Ghanaian-registered fishing vessel.

Seven armed individuals reportedly boarded the ship and discharged warning shots.

The armed group remained on the vessel for approximately three hours.

Upon their departure and after hiding crew members emerged, the ship’s captain, chief mate, and chief engineer were discovered missing.

Authorities suspect a kidnapping by pirates.

The affected fishing vessel has since been docked at Tema Fishing Harbour.

Ghana’s navy has initiated a thorough investigation into this “suspected pirate attack.”

The military statement provided these initial details as the probe commences.
