Jordan’s King Abdullah has called for a strong response against militant groups involved in smuggling drugs and arms.
The call for action comes amid revelations of a foiled plot allegedly led by Iranian elements to smuggle weapons into Jordan to aid opponents of the monarchy.
Jordanian authorities had earlier detained individuals involved in this smuggling attempt and seized the weapons in March.
The King emphasized the need to confront these groups to maintain security and stability in the region. This stance is part of Jordan’s ongoing efforts to tackle smuggling activities along its borders, particularly with Syria, where conflicts have facilitated such illicit operations.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of border security challenges that Jordan faces, particularly from Iranian-backed militias, which have been linked to increased drug and arms smuggling activities aimed at destabilizing the region
