Kenya plans to send additional police officers to Haiti to support the government in combating armed gangs, President William Ruto announced on Thursday. The reinforcements will contribute to a 2,500-strong multinational force aimed at restoring stability in the Caribbean nation.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Ruto revealed that Kenya had already sent 382 specially trained officers, whom he visited in Haiti last week. “I must emphasize that Kenya will deploy an additional contingent to help meet the 2,500 police officer target by January next year,” Ruto said during his address.
Kenya previously committed to leading the international effort, pledging 1,000 police officers as part of the multinational initiative.
