Mali’s military junta has indicated the likelihood of a minor delay in the presidential elections originally slated for February, citing technical issues and assuring that a revised timeline will be provided at a later date.
Mali had previously planned to conduct the initial round of the election on February 4, 2024, followed by a second round two weeks later.
The junta’s announcement cited several factors, including a dispute with a French company concerning a civil registry database, as the reasons for postponing the election. The election was intended to restore Mali to constitutional governance following military coups in August 2020 and May 2021.
