
At least 10 people were killed by extremist rebels linked to the Islamic State group in an attack on the village of Makoko in eastern Congo’s North Kivu province.
David Sikuli, a member of the provincial parliament, confirmed the attack, calling for expanded joint military operations between Congo and Uganda to combat the threat posed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an IS affiliate.
Eastern Congo has been plagued by decades of armed conflict, with numerous groups vying for control of the region’s rich mineral resources.

The ADF, which originated in Uganda, has significantly increased its activity in recent years, carrying out numerous attacks that have resulted in mass killings, abductions, and significant displacement of civilians.
