
African leaders extended their condolences to the people of Russia and its government on Saturday, in response to a terror attack that claimed the lives of over 130 victims in Moscow.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, the death toll from Friday’s shooting at the Crocus City concert hall in the Moscow region increased to 133 after additional bodies were recovered from the debris.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed shock and sadness over the attack, offering heartfelt condolences to the Russian people.
Ramaphosa also mentioned plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days to congratulate him on his reelection and discuss various matters, including the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, condemned the attack and extended “deepest condolences” to the grieving families while expressing solidarity with the people and government of Russia.
Similarly, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud strongly denounced the heinous act of terrorism and conveyed his deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by the tragic event.
The Somali government affirmed its support for the Russian people during this challenging period, firmly rejecting all forms of violence and terrorism.
President Macky Sall of Senegal offered heartfelt condolences and expressed solidarity with the Russian people and government, while Burkina Faso conveyed compassion and sincere condolences to the victims’ families, the government, and the entire Russian populace.
The Burkinabe government also expressed hope for the accountability of the perpetrators behind the heinous crimes.
Mali’s Foreign Ministry joined in condemning the attack and extended deep compassion from the Malian nation to the Russian authorities and people.
Additionally, President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo strongly condemned the terror attack, expressing unwavering solidarity with the Russian authorities in the fight against terrorism.
The Russian Investigative Committee reported the detention of 11 individuals, including four perpetrators, in the border region of Bryansk, as they were en route to Ukraine.
