A Nigerian military helicopter carrying 32 people crashed in southwestern Ondo state on Monday after losing contact with air traffic controllers while flying to Lagos, officials said.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said the aircraft was carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members when controllers lost contact with it at 0813 GMT.
Efforts to restore communication were unsuccessful, prompting authorities to launch a search operation.
The wreckage was later found near a naval base in Igbokoda, a coastal town in Ondo state, where emergency teams were conducting search and rescue operations.
There was no immediate confirmation of casualties.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what may have caused the crash.
The incident is among Nigeria’s most serious military aviation accidents in recent years and is expected to renew scrutiny of military flight safety and operational readiness as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
