Nigerian court bans Lakurawa group: terrorist organization

A Nigerian federal court has declared the Islamist Lakurawa group a terrorist organisation.

This designation, issued by Judge James Omotosho, allows the Nigerian military to use maximum force against the group, which has been a growing security threat in the northwestern region of the country.

The Lakurawa group operates primarily in Kebbi and Sokoto states and has been responsible for a series of violent attacks.

This designation comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with ongoing security challenges, including the insurgency of Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, as well as the activities of various bandit groups.

The Nigerian government’s move aims to enhance its ability to counter the threat posed by the Lakurawa group and maintain security in the affected regions.
