Nigerian court punishes TikTok star for money spraying

A Nigerian TikTok celebrity was jailed for six months for “spraying” naira at a party, a common but illegal practice.

Murja Kunya, with over a million followers, pleaded guilty in a Kano federal high court.

The judge offered a 50,000 naira fine as an alternative and ordered her to campaign against naira abuse online.

Kunya, known for controversial online content, has a history of legal issues in Kano.

She was arrested by the EFCC for spraying naira in a video, violating Nigerian law.

After initially absconding bail, she was rearrested and pleaded guilty.

“Spraying” naira at celebrations is common but legally prohibited as disrespectful.

The EFCC has been enforcing a 2007 law against naira abuse, leading to celebrity arrests.

Critics claim the law’s enforcement is selective.

The law carries a maximum six-month jail term and a 50,000 naira fine.
