Oil tanker explosion in southern Nigeria kills 4

Four people were killed when a petrol tanker exploded in southern Nigeria, an official said on Monday.

The impact of the explosion on Sunday damaged nearby buildings and vehicles.

Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of southern Delta State, said on X that the incident was caused by a fallen 33,000-litre diesel tanker in Agbor town in the state’s Ika South Local Government Area.

Oborevwori directed the Health Ministry, the state emergency management agency and other relevant authorities to “expedite immediate support for all victims of the incident.”

Nigeria has reported several tanker explosions that have claimed hundreds of lives, including the major one on October 16 of last year, when an oil tanker exploded while people were collecting oil in Jigawa, North Western State, killing at least 150 people and injuring over 200.
