Presidential elections in Egypt to be held December 10-12

Egypt’s presidential election is scheduled to take place from December 10 to 12, as announced by the elections authority on Monday. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is widely anticipated to secure reelection, even amidst an economic crisis characterised by soaring inflation and persistent foreign currency shortages.

Sisi, who is 68 years old, is eligible to run for a third term thanks to constitutional changes made in 2019. These amendments also extended the presidential term length from four to six years, thereby allowing him to potentially remain in office until at least 2030.

The election results are anticipated to be revealed on December 23. In the event of a runoff election, the final results should be declared no later than January 16, according to the election authority.
