Donald Trump displayed printed articles at the White House, alleging a “genocide” against white people in South Africa.
The papers, shown to South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa, included a blog post with a photo from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Trump claimed the headlines, from “the last few days,” showed recent deaths of white farmers.
He asserted “burial sites all over the place,” holding up an article with a Red Cross image.
However, the image was from a Congolese jailbreak video, not South Africa.
The video showed Red Cross workers responding to women raped and burned alive in Goma.
Trump and his allies have spread these claims, which South Africa’s government denies.
South African police figures show about 75 murders daily, mostly young black men in cities.
