
In a significant diplomatic move, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar engaged in discussions with Abdirizak Omar Mohamed, Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, on Tuesday.
The meeting, hosted by Bayraktar at the ministry in Ankara, focused on enhancing energy cooperation between the two nations.
Taking to the social media platform X, Bayraktar shared insights into the discussions, stating, “During the meeting, we explored potential steps to bolster our bilateral cooperation, with a particular emphasis on the energy sector, especially hydrocarbons.”
He further emphasized their commitment to elevating the collaborative efforts in the energy domain to a level befitting the strong and sincere relations shared between Turkey and Somalia.
The talks signify a strategic effort to deepen ties and tap into the energy potential that exists between the two nations.
Turkey, a staunch ally of the Horn of Africa nation, has not only invested significantly in Somalia’s education, infrastructure, and health sectors but has also extended extensive humanitarian aid.
The nation maintains its largest embassy in Africa in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
Additionally, Turkey has established its largest overseas military facility in Mogadishu, dedicated to training the Somali national army.
The ongoing discussions and diplomatic efforts underscore the commitment of both countries to fostering cooperation beyond traditional realms, solidifying their partnership for mutual benefit.
