
Microsoft will invest an additional 5.4 billion rand ($296.81 million) into artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in South Africa, the company’s Vice Chair and President Brad Smith announced Thursday.
Speaking at an event in Johannesburg, Smith also revealed that Microsoft plans to fund technical certification exams for 50,000 individuals to help meet the demand for digital skills.
In January, Microsoft revealed plans to invest around $80 billion in fiscal 2025 to expand data centers, aimed at training AI models and deploying AI and cloud-based applications.
