Morocco welcomed over 17 million tourists in 2024, a significant increase of 20% compared to the previous year, setting a new record for the North African nation.
The tourism ministry attributed this surge to the government’s substantial investments in modernizing airports, public transport, and the hospitality sector.
More than half of the visitors were foreign tourists, with the remaining comprising Moroccans living abroad.
Tourism currently contributes significantly to Morocco’s economy, accounting for approximately seven percent of its GDP.
The sector directly employs around 827,000 people, and tourism revenues exceeded $10 billion by the end of November 2024, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Morocco has been actively promoting tourism growth through initiatives such as expanding air routes and partnering with low-cost airlines. In 2024, 120 new international air routes were introduced, bringing the total to 705.
The country is also gearing up to host major sporting events, including the African Cup of Nations later this year and the FIFA World Cup in 2030, which are expected to further boost tourism arrivals.
