Nigeria’s oil production has increased to between 1.6 and 1.7 million barrels per day.
This rise follows enhanced security measures to combat crude theft, according to Chief of Naval Staff Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla.
In February, Nigeria’s oil output, as a member of OPEC, was 1.2 million barrels daily, Ogalla stated.
Meanwhile, the oil giant Shell has pulled out of the country, marking a significant industry shift.
“We have intensified surveillance and enforcement in oil-producing areas,” Ogalla emphasized.
These efforts aim to protect oil production and curb theft, ensuring a more secure environment for operations.
The Nigerian Navy currently deploys 12 vessels to safeguard oil production.
To date, they have arrested over 16 vessels involved in illegal activities, showing progress in tackling oil theft and securing resources.
Ogalla also mentioned that the Navy has successfully blocked channels used for selling illegally refined petroleum.
In May, Oil Minister Heineken Lokpobiri noted Nigeria could produce 6 million barrels daily with sufficient investment.
