Nigerian oil firm Renaissance Energy has halted production on one line feeding into the Trans Niger oil pipeline due to an operational incident.
This major oil artery transports crude from onshore oilfields to the Bonny export terminal.
An environmental group reported a pipeline burst on May 6th, spilling oil into the B-Dere community in Ogoniland.
Renaissance Energy stated they immediately isolated the affected pipeline and stopped production on that specific line.
The company spokesperson, Michael Adande, confirmed cooperation with the B-Dere community to clamp the pipeline and recover spilled oil, with cleanup preparations underway.
Renaissance Energy’s investigators confirmed the incident was operational.
The Trans Niger Pipeline, capable of transporting around 450,000 barrels per day, is a key export route for Nigeria’s Bonny Light crude oil.
