Nigeria’s Warri Refinery back online after decade of shutdowns

Nigeria has announced the resumption of operations at its Warri oil refinery after nearly a decade of shutdowns.

This marks a significant step towards the government’s goal of reviving the country’s moribund refining sector, which has left Africa’s largest crude oil exporter heavily reliant on fuel imports.

While full capacity has not yet been reached, the refinery is currently operating at 60%.

This development follows the recent restart of the Port Harcourt refinery and aligns with the government’s plan to revitalize all four state-owned refineries.

The successful operation of the Warri refinery is expected to contribute to reducing Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports and enhance energy security within the country.
