Republic of Congo has requested talks with the International Monetary Fund for a new financing programme, ministry said Monday.
An IMF technical mission is expected to arrive in coming weeks to begin discussions, according to the finance ministry.
Previous IMF programme ended in March 2025 after disbursing 324 million Special Drawing Rights over three years, about 430 million dollars.
The talks will define parameters for a new programme tailored to the oil-producing country’s economic priorities and stability goals.
President Denis Sassou Nguesso won a tightly controlled March election with over 94 percent, extending his nearly 42-year rule.
His government says its development plan focuses on peace consolidation, economic diversification, and necessary reforms for inclusive growth and jobs.
The IMF has said Congo’s economic outlook remains fragile, citing weak investment, energy disruptions, and softened medium-term growth prospects.
