Turkish official: Our trade with Africa exceeded 40 billion dollars

The Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay, announced that the trade volume between Turkey and the African continent exceeded 40 billion dollars in 2022. He made this statement during a speech at a reception hosted by the South African Embassy in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on the occasion of Freedom Day and Heritage Day.

The Ambassador Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba of South Africa in Ankara attended the event, in addition to ambassadors from other countries and many other guests.

Ambassador Bozay praised the decision of the South African Embassy in Ankara to postpone its Freedom Day celebration due to the earthquake disaster that occurred on February 6, 2023, in southern Turkey.

South Africa celebrates Freedom Day on April 27th each year, but its embassy in Ankara decided to postpone the celebration following the devastating earthquake in Turkey.

Bozay stated that the trade volume between Turkey and the African continent, including South Africa, had risen to 40.7 billion dollars in 2022.

He emphasized that the trade volume between the two sides was only 5.4 billion dollars in 2003, highlighting Turkey’s support for enhancing African representation in international forums.

In turn, Ambassador Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba praised the existing relations between her country and Turkey, expressing her commitment to developing trade relations between the two nations.
