The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has refuted claims of engaging in negotiations with Israel over the potential reception of Palestinian migrants from the bombarded Gaza Strip on its territory.
In a statement issued late Thursday, Patrick Muyaya, the spokesperson for the Congolese government, categorically denied any discussions or initiatives between Kinshasa and Israel on this matter.
This statement comes in response to recent media reports suggesting that the Congolese government might consider accepting Palestinian migrants.
Contrary to these reports, the government emphasizes that there has never been any negotiation or discussion with Israel regarding the reception of Palestinian migrants in the DRC.
According to Israeli media, the Israeli government is allegedly adopting a policy of “voluntary” resettlement for Palestinians from Gaza.
A senior source in the security Cabinet was quoted this week, indicating that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition is discreetly exploring the possibility of relocating thousands of migrants from Gaza to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, initiated by a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on October 7, has led to relentless air and ground attacks by Israel.
As per Gaza’s health authorities, at least 22,600 Palestinians have been killed, with 57,910 others injured. In response, nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have lost their lives during the conflict.
The consequences of the conflict are severe, with 60% of Gaza’s infrastructure damaged or destroyed, leaving the enclave in ruins. Additionally, almost 2 million residents have been displaced, grappling with acute shortages of essential resources such as food, clean water, and medicine.
The denial by the Democratic Republic of Congo adds a new dimension to the reported discussions between Israel and other nations regarding the resettlement of Palestinian migrants.
