Iran says 935 killed in Israeli strikes during 12-day air war

At least 935 people were killed in Israel’s 12-day air campaign on Iran, including dozens of children and women, according to new figures released by Iran’s judiciary on Monday.

Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir, citing forensic data, said the casualties included 38 children and 132 women. The figure marks a steep rise from the previous official death toll of 610 released by Iran’s health ministry before a ceasefire took effect last Tuesday.

Jahangir also updated the toll from a strike on Tehran’s Evin Prison to 79 dead, up from 71.

The air war began on June 13 when Israel launched a wave of strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and military infrastructure, killing senior officers and civilians in what officials called the most serious attack on Iranian soil since the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s.

Iran responded with missile attacks on Israeli military facilities, infrastructure, and population centers. The United States entered the conflict on June 22 with targeted strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

At a press briefing on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned Israel’s campaign as unlawful and accused it of committing “many war crimes.”

“The Zionist regime’s attack was unjustified and indiscriminate. We do not separate military from civilian victims,” Baghaei said, adding that Iran would submit evidence to international bodies seeking accountability.

“Every martyr and every destroyed building is an example of a war crime,” he said.
