IRGC threatens US bases after attacks on Iranian oil tankers

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a defiant ultimatum on Saturday, vowing to strike American military installations and “enemy ships” if Iranian maritime assets continue to face aggression.

The warning follows a significant escalation in the Gulf of Oman, where the United States military disabled two Iranian-flagged oil tankers on Friday.

U.S. Central Command confirmed that the unladen vessels, the M/T Sea Star III and M/T Sevda, were intercepted as part of a rigorous naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Tehran’s maritime command described these actions as a “hostile violation” of a fragile month-old ceasefire and a blatant act of maritime piracy.

“Any attack on Iranian tankers will result in a heavy attack on American centers in the region,” the IRGC stated through state-affiliated media.

The rhetoric underscores the “metallic logic” of a region on the precipice, as diplomatic efforts in Islamabad struggle to prevent a total collapse of order.

While the U.S. characterizes its blockade as a “humanitarian gesture” to guide vessels safely, Iran views the presence of foreign warships as an intolerable breach of sovereignty.

Artillery and drone fire echoed near the Strait of Hormuz late Thursday, serving as a grim overture to the Guards’ latest threats.

Global energy markets remain volatile as the shadow of the IRGC’s “crushing response” looms over one of the world’s most critical transit points.

The international community now watches the horizon, where the line between a shaky peace and a broader conflagration grows thinner by the hour.
