
Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner of the presidential election on Sunday night, according to the head of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso.
Amoroso announced that with 80% of the ballots counted, Maduro of the Great Patriotic Pole (Gran Polo Patriótico) emerged victorious out of ten candidates in the race.
Initial results show Maduro won with 51.2% of the vote, securing his third term.
The opposition’s Edmundo González Urrutia came in second with 44.2%.
Amoroso mentioned that the detailed election results will be available on the CNE’s website shortly.
Voter turnout for the election was reported at 59%.
Maduro is set to be sworn in as president on January 10, 2025.
