African soccer leader Motsepe aims to build new stadiums

Patrice Motsepe secured a second four-year term as Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, running unopposed.

He emphasized the need for private sector investment to build national stadiums across Africa.

Motsepe highlighted that 12 CAF member federations currently lack stadiums meeting international standards.

Motsepe cited recent visits to Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, noting a growing governmental recognition of football’s importance.

However, he acknowledged financial constraints faced by African governments.

He stated that many heads of state prioritize loan repayments and essential services over stadium construction.

The CAF president aims to reduce the number of nations lacking suitable stadiums, down from 38 in recent years.

He pledged to engage with private financiers to address this issue.

Motsepe stressed the importance of national teams and clubs playing in front of home supporters.
