Algeria secured a resounding 5-1 victory over Liberia on Sunday, with Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez contributing to the goal tally.
This emphatic win cemented Algeria’s position at the top of Group E in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Mahrez, who had endured a goal drought in his previous seven appearances for Algeria, including a disappointing early exit from the last tournament, found the net once again.
His goal was crucial in Algeria’s comeback after conceding an early goal.
With this victory, Algeria finished the group stage with an impressive record of five wins and one draw, accumulating a total of 16 points.
This dominant performance secured their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Morocco.
Equatorial Guinea, despite a 3-0 loss to Togo, also qualified for the tournament as the group’s second-place finisher.
The final round of qualifiers will be completed on Monday and Tuesday, with five more spots up for grabs in the 24-team competition.
