Rennes and Ghana national team defender, Alidu Seidu, is set to be sidelined for an extended period due to a serious knee injury.
The 26-year-old suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament during his team’s 1-0 loss to Lille in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Seidu was forced to leave the pitch after just 18 minutes of play.
This unfortunate injury comes at a difficult time for Rennes, who have struggled this season and recently appointed Jorge Sampaoli as their new coach.
The club currently sits in 15th place in the league, with their 11 points after 12 matches marking their lowest tally at this stage since 2002.
Seidu’s absence will undoubtedly be a significant blow to Rennes’ defensive line, as he has been a key player for the club.
His recovery timeline remains uncertain, but it is expected to be several months.
