The 2023 New York City Marathon saw a thrilling finish as Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands and Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s races, respectively.
Nageeye, who had previously finished third in 2022, outpaced defending champion Evans Chebet in the final stretch, securing the win with a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 39 seconds.
In the women’s race, Chepkirui dominated, pulling away from Hellen Obiri to claim her first New York City Marathon title in 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 35 seconds.
The wheelchair races also saw exciting finishes, with Daniel Romanchuk and Susannah Scaroni taking the men’s and women’s titles, respectively.
This marks the first time since 2019 that both wheelchair races have been won by American athletes.
The 48th annual New York City Marathon, known for its iconic course that winds through all five boroughs, attracted over 50,000 participants.
The ideal weather conditions contributed to a successful race for both elite and amateur runners alike.
